Excerpts
Good firm tomatoes, even those that are just a bit green, should be used
for this recipe. They are a little less juicy and hold their shape better
when grilled than fully ripe ones. Fresh basil is wonderful with tomatoes,
but you could also use chopped tarragon or even parsley in the basting
sauce.
Prepare a fire in a grill. Position the oiled grill rack 4-6 inches above the
fire.
In a small bowl stir together the oil, lemon juice or vinegar, chopped
basil, shallots, salt and pepper.

Heat a grill until medium hot. In a large bowl, combine the melted butter
and brown sugar. Add all fruit, and toss. Fold the edges of a piece of
heavy-duty aluminum foil to form a shallow baking pan, and place on grill.
Arrange the fruit, cut sides down, on the foil. Cook fruit until browned and
caramelized around the edges, rearranging occasionally to prevent
burning. Turn the fruit over, and repeat.
